The five departments at the IOU are:

  • Department of Psychology

  • Department of Arabic Language and Linguistics
Admission Criteria

The students have to meet the requirements of both the programs to be eligible to enroll into the Dual Program. The criteria are as follows:

  • For Bachelor’s / Diploma / Certificate Programs: minimum requirement is a high school diploma or its equivalent certificate.
  • For Higher Diploma: minimum requirement is an accredited bachelor’s degree.
Maximum Time Allotted for Dual Program
  • 2 bachelor’s degree programs (2 different departments) = maximum 12 years
  • A bachelor’s degree program and an accredited 2-year diploma program (2 different departments) = maximum 12 years
  • A bachelor’s degree program and an accredited 1-year certificate program (2 different departments) = maximum 12 years
  • 2 accredited 2-year diploma programs (2 different departments) = maximum 6 years
  • 2 accredited 1-year certificate programs (2 different departments) = maximum 3 years
  • A 2-year diploma program and a 1-year certificate program (2 different departments) = maximum 6 years
  • Any bachelor’s degree program except the BAIS and the Bridge to MAIS (BMAIS) program = maximum 12 years
  • Intensive Arabic Program and any bachelor, diploma, higher diploma, or certificate program = maximum 12 / 6 / 4.5 / 3 years respectively
Course Selection

Important points to note:

  • Students can enroll into as less as total 2 courses only, that is, 1 course per program.
  • Their total number of enrolled courses in both programs cannot exceed 12.
  • A student can normally take two regular bundles in each stream.
  • He/she can also take 1 regular bundle + 1 single bundle.
  • And at a time maximum he/she can take: double bundle in one stream and regular bundle in one stream.

Some examples are given here to further illustrate course selection combinations. A student can take:

  1. 2 regular bundles and take total 12 courses from 2 streams
  2. 1 regular bundle and 1 single bundle and take total 12 courses from 2 streams. So if he takes all 9 courses from his single bundle stream then in the other one he cannot take more than 3 courses.
  3. 1 double bundle and 1 regular bundle and take total 12. Example of this point with stream names: a person can pay double bundle and take 11 courses from BAIS + pay for regular bundle and take just 1 course from B.Ed. Because he used up his courses quota of 12 mostly for BAIS here.

Note: Regular bundle <= 6 courses; Single bundle <= 9 courses; Double bundle <= 12 courses.

Benefits of the Policy

This policy allows students to simultaneously pursue various combinations of streams of study among bachelor’s degree, diploma, and certificate programs in different departments at the IOU.

Fee Structure
  1. Students will pay both the programs’ registration fees at the beginning of each semester
  2. In a semester where a student will study only one stream and pause the other, he/she will pay semester registration fee for the continuing stream only
  3. Students will pay Internal Credit Transfer fee for all common courses that they take only once in either of the streams of study. Internal Credit Transfer fee has to be paid before the commencement of their final semester of study in the Dual Program.
