The 1 Million Scholarship for Africa Project’s programs are expanding every day for students in Africa and around the world who have lost one or both parents, or who have a parent who is unable to work due to a disability and wants to study but has no financial ability.

The 1 Million Scholarship for Africa Project Africa Initiative

This is a rigorous leadership program for young people determined to make a difference in Sub-Saharan Africa. It includes access to all the financial aid and support needed to study at a university abroad, undertake an internship, and learn how to become a leader.

General Scholarship Program

Although the 1 Million Scholarship for Africa Project primarily focuses its efforts on poor, needy and orphans in Africa, we do have General Scholarship programs that benefit students who are not orphans but do not have the financial ability to obtain a university degree.

General 1MAS Requirements

Applicant seeking to apply for IOU 1 Million Scholarship should be:

  1. An orphan either lost one or both parents.
  2. Poor or needy but brilliant students without financial means to attend a university.
  3. Have completed 12 years of education (primary and secondary school) and obtain at least passes as required by all universities
  4. Be an African a citizen or have completed/are completing Secondary/high school in one of the following African country countries: The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, South Africa, Liberia, Malawi, Botswana, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania,.
  5. Proficient in English.
  6. Have an outstanding academic performance at high school.( Not less than 5 credits including English and Maths)
  7. In good health condition and capable of studying online
  8. Have basic computer literacy knowledge. (i.e. Ms word, Excel and PowerPoint and web browsing skills)
  9. Complete IOU Free Diploma Course and score at least 80% or above.
  10. Be committed to contributing to the development of his community upon completion of study.

Application Documents to Submit

Applicants of IOU 1 Million are required to:

  1. Completed IOU Online/Manual Scholarship application form. (Reps can also use the hardcopy application form below at a reasonable fee)
  2. Active email address and contact telephone number(s)
  3. Document proving the death of one or both parents, such as a death certificate
  4. Proof of age, such as a birth certificate, national ID or passport
  5. Proof of Student inability to financial means to attend a university (Bank statement)
  6. Secondary school/high school graduation certificate
  7. Academic report cards from the last two years of high school/secondary school
  8. Recommendation letter from a guarantor or an Imam
  9. Two (2) Passport-sized pictures of applicants
