Purpose

Status

Date of Approval

April 16, 2016.

Policy Statement
  • Continuing* students of all degree, diploma, and certificate programs at the Islamic Online University opting to enroll into nine or more than nine courses (including grade-transfer courses) in a given semester are hereby obliged to pass in minimum 50% of the courses they enrolled in the previous semester.
  • If any student fails to accomplish this, the system will not allow them to enroll in more than 6 courses and will send them a notification explaining the reason, as well as alternatives, and offer a form through which they can apply for exemption from this policy. This entire process will be automated, and the Student Counsellor will only need to check any exemption forms that are filled in and submitted.
  • If the student shows an increase in ability to complete nine courses at any time in the future, the system will recognize this and allow that student to enroll in multiple courses.

*Continuing student is hereby defined as a student in their second or in a later semester of study at the University.

Note: this policy is not applicable to the freshmen who are in their very first semester in the Degree Campus at the IOU.

Benefits of the Policy
  1. The student will receive counsel and encouragement to assist in choosing the best stream and number of courses to achieve his/her goals.
  2. The policy will also benefit IOU from an administrative point of view by preventing any form of exploitation taking place.
